Ever wonder if your child got on the school bus safely? Or freeze in the cold while waiting for it? Well thanks to technological advances and maybe a small case of helicopter parenting, buses at Elk Island Public Schools will soon be equipped with a GPS tracking device.
The program called My Stop, has tracking devices on all buses and lets parents and students track the current location of a bus and receive an estimated time of arrival, the school division's website states. The information can be accessed via a computer, smart phone or tablet, it adds.
Students scan a pass when they get on and off the bus, so parents know if the child made it on, but doesn't let them track where their child is at all times, Global Edmonton reports.
Elk Island Public Schools is the first school division to use student tracking and has spent $260,000 to equip its 170 buses, Global Edmonton adds.
