Ottawa kids got to go knocking on some of the most distinguished doors in the country tonight.
If they could get past the metal detectors, that is.
As is tradition, Ottawa's official residences lit up the jack-o-lanterns and welcomed trick-or-treaters for Halloween.
At 24 Sussex, little ghouls were directed through a metal detector by RCMP officers before getting the candy goods from Stephen Harper. They also had to leave such "threatening" items as plastic swords and pitchforks on a table.
Harper didn't dress up for the occasion, but his political colleagues were more forthcoming with their Halloween spirit.
Governor General David Johnston went all out with a pilot costume complete with a spooky, cobwebbed airplane at Rideau Hall. And at Stornoway, official residence of the opposition leader, Tom Mulcair was in cowboy duds (or simply recycling his Calgary Stampede outfit) handing out cans of Orange Crush, the unofficial drink of the NDP.
