Calgary Zoo's Giraffe Crosby Makes His Debut (PHOTOS)

One of the newest additions to the Calgary Zoo got his chance to mingle with someone special today. Two-year-old Crosby, a male Masai giraffe from Louisville Zoo was introduced to Carrie after completing a month long quarantine.

Carrie is the Calgary Zoo's 19-year-old female giraffe and Crosby's new companion.

“There are fewer than 150 Masai giraffe in captivity in the world. This subspecies needs the most bolstering within the captive population which is why the Calgary Zoo has chosen to move toward participation in this Species Survival Plan," said Jamie Dorgan, Animal Care Manager in a press release.

Participating in the giraffe Species Survival Plan (SSP) for many years now, 17 giraffes have been born at the the Calgary Zoo over the years.
