A cougar spotted on a popular hiking trail in Canmore has prompted a warning from experts.
Alberta Parks put out a cougar advisory Sunday after a hiker reported a cougar following him and his dog for a period of time on Meander Trail.
The warning extends to the sunny side of town and includes Meander Trail, Ridge Traverse Trail and the Montane Trail West section of Johnny's Trail.
Cougar sightings in Banff National Park are rare, but several cats have made their presence known in 2013.

Earlier this year, wildlife experts caught a mother cougar feasting on the carcass of a deer with her young. As well, a Canmore man woke to a cougar feasting on a kill behind his apartment building last month.
Alberta Parks recommends that people be observant, make consistent noise, travel in a tight group and keep dogs and small children close while in the area.
