Police in Phoenix, Arizona say Eugene Maraventano stabbed his wife to death because he thought he had given her AIDS, ABC15 News reports.
The 63-year-old is accused of murdering his wife Janet in her bed, and then killing his adult son, the Associated Press reports.
According to court documents obtained by The Phoenix New Times, Maraventano called 911 several days after the killings took place, telling a dispatcher, "I killed my wife and I killed my son; I can't kill myself."
Those same documents suggest the man killed his 27-year-old son, Bryan, over concerns that he was mentally ill because he seemed to play video games all day.
Whether Maraventano is actually HIV positive was not revealed in court documents.
Maraventano is charged with two counts of first-degree murder.
