Mayor Nenshi Reads 'Pete The Cat: I Love My White Shoes' (VIDEO)

WATCH: What Is Nenshi Up To This Time?

It's been a big week for Canadian mayors in the news, what with Toronto mayor Rob Ford's refusal to respond to crack smoking allegations and Edmonton mayor Stephen Mandel's decision to retire.

Calgary mayor Naheed Nenshi, on the other hand, has been keeping his head down - and his nose in a book.

The literature of choice? "Pete the Cat: I Love My White Shoes," by children's author Eric Litwin.

While the picture book might seem a few levels below the Harvard-educated mayor's reading ability, it's all for fun.

On Tuesday the mayor's office released a video of Nenshi reading the cat-tale aloud on YouTube, as part of the 2013 Calgary International Children's Festival.

Clad in a grey cowboy hat, funky paisley shirt and embroidered navy suit jacket, Nenshi proves to be a great story teller, bringing the book to life with finger-snaps, dance moves and hand gestures.

Perhaps the best part of the video, however, are Nenshi's team of backup vocalists. They're not trained professionals, but rather members of the mayor's team who threw on aviator sunglasses and stepped in to help bring the story to life.

For those wondering what happens to Pete the Cat and his white shoes, the video sill make that amusingly clear.
