A Christy Clark staffer caused some embarrassment for the premier-elect after a Facebook post acknowledging the death of a former MLA went awry.

“B.C. lost one of our most passionate promoters in Bill Reid. My thoughts are with his family,” read the message published from Christy Clark’s account.

Bill Reid, a former Social Credit MLA, died Wednesday at the age of 78.

Accompanying the message was a photo of a bronze statue created by renowned Haida artist Bill Reid – confusing two different men with the same name.

Reid, the artist, died in 1998 of Parkinson’s disease. Clark’s office confirmed the mistake caught by Vancouver-based freelancer Kai Nagata.

“Picture was put up and taken right down,” said Clark’s press secretary Mike Morton.

The pictured statue – named the “Spirit of Haida Gwaii” – is located at the Canadian embassy in Washington D.C. A second casting of the same statue can be found at the Vancouver International Airport.
