Ryan Wang, Piano Prodigy, Performs On 'Ellen' (VIDEO)

WATCH: West Van Piano Prodigy On 'Ellen'

A 5-year-old West Vancouver piano prodigy performed on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" Monday, but not before taking some time to teach the talk show host some Mandarin.

"Ni hao ma," said a dapper tuxedo-clad Ryan Wang to DeGeneres, teaching her to say, "How are you?"

The young piano player started playing just 18 months ago. Since then, Wang has played before large audiences and is scheduled to travel China to play with the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra.

When asked how he's able to remember all the music he's learned, Wang gave a cheerful, polite response.

"Because it's just in my memory, I just love it, and then sometimes it just goes to my fingers," he said.

Wang placed second at the American Protégé Piano and Strings International Competition 2013, earning him a spot to play Carnegie Hall in March.

"I did pretty good," said Wang to CBC News after his much-anticipated gig.

Xinyi Wang (no relation), 5, another gifted Vancouver piano also played at the famed New York City concert venue. The Metro Vancouver two piano prodigies sometimes play music together too.
