Guitarist/singer Chris Levoir, a member of Toronto rock band The Mark Inside, died over the weekend due to unknown causes. Citing birthday salutations last Oct. 31 from friends on his Facebook page it seems Levoir was 31 at the time of his death.
"RIP Chris Levoir," the band tweeted earlier today. "Way too soon." The tweet also included a link to a YouTube clip entitled "Riding On The Subway With Chris" showing Levoir riding the rails in Toronto.
"We tried hard to personally give the news to as many people as possible, rather than finding out on Facebook," the band added in subsequent tweets. "So sorry to those we missed. Thank you very sincerely to everyone for your condolences. Retweets feel crass right now, be we truly appreciate it. We'll keep you posted."
According to his Facebook page, Levoir was the front of house sound engineer at The Great Hall in Toronto and studied producing and engineering at the Harris Institute for the Arts. The Mark Inside were planning to release their new studio album "Dark Hearts Can Radiate White Light" at a CD release show July 4 in Toronto.
In 2009, Levoir also contributed to the National Post with a lengthy look at life in a band. In a Facebook post with some unedited journal postings, the musician explained the joy of playing live.
"Those magical nights when you know you have made a room full of strangers dance and party with you is the most glorious feeling i have felt on this planet, it is akin to sex, god and the laughter of children wrapped into to one sweaty orgasmic roller coaster," he wrote.
Levoir's sudden death caused an outpouring of reactions and condolences to the band on Twitter and Facebook. Funeral arrangements have yet to be announced.
