It’s hard to resist the allure of a West Coast waterfront house.

For the past two decades, wealthy buyers have been picking up real estate along British Columbia’s coast, transforming dated homes into desirable multi-million dollar contemporary gems.

One newly-constructed $9.9-million estate in West Vancouver boast all the earmarks of luxury waterfront design including polished concrete walls, exposed wood beams and floor-to-ceiling windows wrapped around open-concept kitchens and living spaces.

It also has a private pool that offers rolling panorama views of the Georgia Strait and Vancouver Island in the distance.

This organic mixed-material style, influenced by American architect Frank Lloyd Wright, has influenced house and condo design around Metro Vancouver to really showcase the priceless views of forest and ocean available to multi-million dollar properties.

North of Sechelt, an architect went out of their way to design a bathroom to shame all bathrooms with retractable floor-length windows so bathers can gaze upon unobstructed views of purple, pink and marigold sunsets.

Excessive? Yes. Necessary? Absolutely.
