Flying can be an uncomfortable experience but some passengers on board an United Airlines found themselves down in the dumps after their 11-hour-long flight ran out of toilet paper.
Flight 931 left San Francisco for London on Sunday when the plane ran out of tee pee mid-journey. Airline staff tried to relieve the situation with a "makeshift duct-tape dispenser stuffed with cocktail napkins", according to MSN Now.
United's efforts, while noble in retrospect, didn't really fly with some passengers thanks to the napkin's logo, "Fly by the tips of your fingers," which promoted the airline's smartphone app.
One passenger snapped a photo of the improvised toilet paper dispenser which made its way to the Flyer Talk message board under the user name "SFO_Runner."
"Apparently, they ran out in one lav half-way home and couldn't bother to transfer a roll from another," wrote SFO_Runner, adding "and before you ask, I went BACK to the lav AFTER I saw this. Didn't have the phone with me the first time."
For their part, United apologized for the incident in a statement to Consumerist but said they knew about the toilet paper shortage beforehand.
"We did not have the correct amount of paper products onboard United flight 931 prior to takeoff from London Heathrow. Rather than delay the flight, our crew chose to operate the flight to San Francisco as planned. When the aircraft ran low on paper supplies, our onboard crew improvised and provided customers with alternative products. We apologize to our customers for the inconvenience and would like the opportunity to welcome them back."
