She was booted out of the BC NDP on the first day of provincial election due to racist remarks, and won less than 5 per cent of the vote in Kelowna-Mission as an Independent, but Dayleen Van Ryswyk has decided to run again — this time against Premier Christy Clark.
"I am appalled that Christy Clark would consider the Westside-Kelowna riding as an easy win, especially since she lost in her own home riding of Vancouver - Point Grey," Van Ryswyk said in a press release announcing her candidacy as an Independent. "Her own constituents found her unable to represent their interests, and they kicked her out. What makes her think the voters of Westside-Kelowna want an absentee MLA that isn’t even from this area?"
Van Ryswyk was forced to resign on the first day of the B.C. election race over a backlash from “hateful” comments she made in a 2009 online forum.
In a thread titled “Strip Them of the Status Card” a user named Dayleen had harsh words for First Nations.
“It’s not the status cards, it’s the fact that we have been paying out of the nose for generations for something that isn’t our doing. If their ancestors sold out too cheaply, it’s not my fault and I shouldn’t have to be paying for any mistake or whatever you want to call it from MY hard earned money,” read the post.

There are seven candidates challenging B.C. Premier Christy Clark in the byelection race in Westside-Kelowna.
Nominations closed at 1 p.m. Saturday, and Clark will be joined on the ballot by candidates for the NDP, B.C. Vision party, the B.C. Conservative party and four independents.
The seat was vacated by MLA Ben Stewart, in order to allow Clark to run in a safe riding after she led her party to an unexpected victory in the May 14 election, but failed to win her own seat of Vancouver-Point Grey.
Clark will be up against New Democrat Carole Gordon, an elementary school teacher who lost to Stewart in May.
The Liberals won 49 of 85 seats in May, while the New Democrats won 34, the B.C. Greens, one, and one Independent.
Voting day in Westside-Kelowna is July 10.
