300 Pounds Of Marijuana Found In Car Near Canmore, Patrick MacKinnon Charged (PHOTOS)

LOOK: Somebody Was Driving Around With This Much Pot

RCMP have charged an Edmonton man after a staggering amount of marijuana was found in his car near Canmore.

Officers stopped the car Thursday around 5 p.m. on a safety violation as it traveled east on Highway 1.

Mounties say they could immediately smell the stench of pot coming from the vehicle and the driver was taken into custody.

When they opened the back hatch they found more than 300 lbs. of weed parceled out into resealable bags, along with three kilograms of MDMA (Ecstasy) and an extendable baton.

"This is abnormal," said Sgt. Dave Hardy of the Cochrane RCMP, noting it's the largest single-vehicle marijuana bust his detachment has ever seen – usually these type of busts come in under 100 lbs.

RCMP say the street value of the drugs is in excess of $2 million.

Patrick MacKinnon, a 34-year-old male from Edmonton, has been charged with two counts of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking and one count of possession of a weapon dangerous to the public peace.

The man was released on $3,000.00 cash bail to appear in Canmore Provincial Court on July 24.
