Truck Smashes Through Calgary Courts Centre Entrance (PHOTOS)

A Calgary man is facing charges after driving his pickup truck through the front doors of the downtown courthouse – an act police are calling deliberate.

It happened around 3:30 a.m. Monday morning, reports the Calgary Herald, and the suspect was almost immediately apprehended.

According to the Calgary Sun, a witness walking by saw the crash and called police.

“This individual is well known to police and his conduct is not surprising to us,” Insp. Guy Baker told the Sun.

The truck did significant damage to the building, located near Fifth Street and Six Avenue S.W., taking out windows and parts of the metal entrance.

Police told CTV Calgary the driver would have needed to maneuver around several safety barriers put in place to prevent this sort of incident from occurring.

Police said the driver was expected in court Monday and does have a pending court date.

CBC Calgary reports the driver could face several charges including dangerous driving, mischief, obstruction of justice and disrupting government business.

Drugs and alcohol were not involved in the crash.

Monday's court proceedings were not be affected.
