Surrey RCMP are looking for two men and two women who fled a Newton Whalley taxi cab on Saturday after someone pulled up and fired a shot into the back seat.
Police received a call from a cab driver at around 10:50 p.m. on Saturday stating that he was driving on 102A Avenue near University Boulevard when another vehicle pulled up on the driver's side, the RCMP said in a news release.
A person in the second vehicle then fired a shot into the rear window on the driver's side, sending a bullet through the cab.
The four passengers fled when the cab pulled over. Police have carried out patrols looking for the passengers but so far they have not made any contact.
A person who says he was the taxi driver told The Province that the passengers sought a ride to Surrey Central SkyTrain station, and that he was turning toward the station when the shooting took place.
CTV News also spoke to the purported driver who described the passengers as being in their 20s and possibly Caucasian. He added that they didn't seem as scared of the shooting as he would have expected.
