Calgary Prepares For Storm

The City of Calgary is busy preparing for the Monday morning commuter rush following a forecast that predicts 10 to 30 centimetres of snow. A winter storm is expected to move through on Sunday night and into Monday, and blizzard warnings remain in effect for several parts of southern Alberta.

City crews were out on Sunday to prevent ice build-up and to salt the roads; additional crews have also been called in overnight to help prepare for the start of the work week, the City says.

The weather warnings even prompted Air Canada to issue a travel advisory for Sunday. The airline alerted passengers that flights may be impacted by the snow.

Environment Canada says conditions will improve on Tuesday morning, though temperatures will remain cold.

The City is reminding Calgarians to leave extra time for travel on Monday, be prepared for icy road conditions, and drive defensively.

Blizzard warnings are in effect for these parts of southern Alberta:

  • Airdrie - Cochrane - Olds - Sundre
  • Brooks - Strathmore - Vulcan
  • City of Calgary
  • Cypress Hills Provincial Park - Foremost
  • Drumheller - Three Hills
  • Hanna - Coronation - Oyen
  • Lethbridge - Taber - Milk River
  • Medicine Hat - Bow Island - Suffield
  • Okotoks - High River - Claresholm
  • Red Deer - Ponoka - Innisfail - Stettler
