Snow In Vancouver Expected

Metro Vancouver is set to see snow overnight, but forecasts show little chance of a white Christmas.

Environment Canada has issued a snowfall warning for Metro Vancouver that says 10 centimetres are expected to fall inland and over higher terrain, with lesser amounts near the water tonight and tomorrow, before turning to rain later on Friday.

The snow comes as a cold air mass has settled over the South Coast in the wake of a weak Arctic front out of the B.C. Interior.

The City of Vancouver is preparing for any road delays with a full crew and 14 trucks ready to salt and plow major routes tonight, said a news release.

If the snow turns to freezing rain, the city will focus on clearing storm drains to prevent any flooding.

Lovers of the white stuff should not expect it to stay around for very long. Temperatures will reach as high as four degrees Celsius with a mix of sun and cloud on Christmas Day, says one forecast.

The Weather Network tells a similar story, pegging Christmas Day temperatures at a high of five degrees Celsius with no snow expected in the five days leading up to it.
