After a disturbing video that apparently shows two men being kicked in the groin for cash was handed in to Vancouver police, the three men involved have been identified.
The video, filmed in the Granville Street club district, was posted to YouTube Wednesday before being pulled down. It shows a man kicking two other men in the groin, allegedly for money.
In a press release, Sgt. Randy Fincham said that police have identified both men who were kicked, and that the man believed to be responsible contacted police and is cooperating.
"I had no money and there was $50 on the ground and he was offering," one of the men who was kicked told CBC News. The man can be seen in the video wearing a red hat and did not want to give his name. "I was thinking food money for the next week. So I let the guy do it to me," he said.
The video was shot by Riley Speers, who told Global News that he "thought someone should document it. Most people were saying stop, but I think most people were pretty scared because he was a pretty big guy.”
Speers told the news outlet that he took the video down after receiving comments that criticized him for not doing anything to stop the situation.
Fincham said that while a person has the right to consent to being hit, the actions before and after the groin kick are being investigated as a criminal offence.
Anyone with information is asked to call police.
