Canadian skier Alex Bilodeau’s gold medal win at Vancouver’s 2010 Winter Olympics was made all the more heartwarming by his older brother Frederic, who has cerebral palsy, cheering him on.
“My brother is my inspiration,” an emotional Bilodeau said after his gold medal run. “Growing up with handicapped people puts everything back in perspective and he taught me so many things in life. My parents did, too.”
UPDATE:Alex Bilodeau has won gold in men’s moguls at the 2014 Olympics, and fellow Canadian Mikael Kingsbury earned silver. Once again, Bilodeau celebrated his triumph with his brother, Frederic.
Four years on, the 26-year-old from Rosemere, Que. will go for gold in men’s moguls once again in the 2014 Olympics in Sochi on Monday. And just as he did in 2010, Bilodeau still credits Frederic as his inspiration.
“Out of respect for my brother I have to go after these dreams and to do all within my power to try to make it happen," he said according to Canadian Press.
