Space Walk On The Wild Side: Chris Hadfield Joins Canadian All-Star Lou Reed Tribute (VIDEO)

Space Walk On The Wild Side: Chris Hadfield In All-Star Lou Reed Tribute

Lou Reed would have turned 72 this past weekend, his first birthday since the music legend's passing last fall.

To mark the occasion, Reed's Canadian musical director and close friend Kevin Hearn -- perhaps better known to most as they keyboardist in Barenaked Ladies -- gathered up a wide range of Canadian musicians to pay tribute at CBC's Glenn Gould Studio.

With backing from Reed's own band, the Canadians ranged from singing astronaut Chris Hadfield, The Tragically Hip's Gord Downie and opera star Measha Brueggergosman to indie icons like Metric's Emily Haines, Broken Social Scene's Kevin Drew and Ron Sexsmith to Canadian music legends like Rough Trade's Carole Pope, "Sugar Sugar" songwriter Andy Kim and 50s icon Dave Somerville of The Diamonds.

The full concert will air in May, including Hadfield crooning "Sattelite of Love," but CBC Music has released this all-star finale performance of Reed's all-time classic "Walk on the Wild Side" which we've posted above.

Chris Hadfield performed "Satellite of Love."
