An Easter egg hunt turned into a stampede as some eager parents stormed the fences and sent their kids out ahead of the start time at Quebec's Centre de la nature de Laval on Saturday.
Organizers of the annual "Cocothon" initially expected that about 3,000 people would attend the hunt, but 10,000 showed up and a number of them just couldn't wait, CBC News reported.
A TVA video from the event shows parents disassembling the fence and sending kids out on the hunt. There were also reports of children being pushed over as others scooped up the plastic eggs with treats inside.
Kids had eggs stolen right out of their baskets when they turned their backs and adults were seen trampling bushes at the centre, reported radio station CJAD 800.
Organizers posted an apology in French on the centre's Facebook page on Monday.
Translated into English it reads, "The Foundation of the Laval Nature Centre will meet with the #Cocothon organizer for updates on the event. Apologies to all disappointed families."
A police presence is being considered for the next event.
