A Vancouver-based architecture firm can boast about a major international design award for its cabin in the woods.
Scott & Scott Architects won the Architizer A+ award in the "Architecture +Self Initiated Projects" category this month for their sleek Alpine Cabin on Vancouver Island.
The prestigious global award noted that the husband-and-wife team of Susan and David Scott built the cabin without using machine excavation, and to withstand snowfall and dominant winds. The structure, made with Douglas fir, is also elevated to avoid snow accumulation.

"The cabin was constructed out of a desire to directly design and build as a singular act, to work with the freedom one experiences when snowboarding, and in a manner which is centered in the adventure and not bound heavily in pre-determination," states the description on Architizer's website.
The 100-square metre cabin does not have electricity and is heated by a wooden stove. Water is collected from a local source and carried inside.

The Scotts, who began their company last year, recently built a gorgeous studio below their East Vancouver home.
They also designed the space for popular Vancouver sausage restaurant Bestie.
