A 56-year-old Calgary man was killed Friday morning after he collided with a deer while riding his motorcycle.

The man was heading north in the left lane near the 210 block of Macleod Trail just after 5 a.m., when a deer, believed to come out of a ditch and heading east across the road, entered his lane.

Police say the man used his emergency brake for approximately 20 metres before he hit the deer.

Both the victim and the deer were killed in the collision.

Police don't believe speed or alcohol were factors in the crash.

The identity of the motorcyclist has not been released.
