Tinky-Winky, Po, Dipsy and Laa-Laa are set to frolic on TV screens once more, as plans for 60 new "Teletubbies" episodes for U.K. audiences were announced Friday.
The characters will come back with a "refreshed and contemporary look" as producers prepare to broadcast them on CBeebies, a BBC children's brand, said a news release from Halifax's DHX Media Ltd.
"Kids’ entertainment of this calibre entertains generation after generation so we believe there is considerable demand for an enhanced, contemporary version," DHX Media president Steven DeNure said in a statement.
Last year, the Halifax company took over production of the show after it bought Ragdoll Worldwide Inc., its original producer.
It is working with U.K. production company Darrall Macqueen to "upgrade and update" the show with CGI, which they say will reinvigorate the series.
"Teletubbies" originally aired 365 episodes between March 1997 and January 2001, BBC News reported. During that time, it found an audience of over 1 billion children and has been shown in 45 different languages.
Earlier this year, BBC entered into negotiations with DPRK, North Korea's state-run media agency, to bring several shows including "Teletubbies" to screens there.
The show is just one children's favourite in DHX Media's library. It also owns "Caillou," "The Doodlebops" and "Yo Gabba Gabba!," among several popular titles.
