Edmonton, check your lottery tickets! A $50-million Lotto Max ticket from December remains unclaimed.

The sole winner of the massive jackpot bought the ticket Dec. 20 with the winning numbers 2, 13, 18, 24, 27, 37, and 43, according to the Western Canada Lottery Corporation (WCLC).

“It’s not uncommon for people to forget about their lottery tickets, especially tickets purchased at such a busy time of year,” WCLC’s Andrea Marantz said in a news release.

“We urge everyone to think back and look for tickets, even if it isn’t for the December 20th draw. We love to see our players claim all prizes — from Free Plays to the jackpots.”

WCLC says it has seen cases in previous years where it took some time for the winner to come forward.

In 2011, a Calgary woman cashed out a $4-million winning ticket two days before it expired. Apparently the ticket sat for months in a purse she had stopped using because it was broken.

Another woman decided to take care of her premature baby for cashing out her millions-winning ticket.

Many "near-miss" claims come after people find a ticket they had been using as a bookmark or had filed away in a junk drawer or glove compartment.

If the ticket is not claimed by Dec. 20 of this year, says the WCLC, it will be the largest unclaimed prize in Canadian history.

The largest unclaimed prize currently is a $14.9 million LOTTO 6/49 ticket from June 2006, which was also purchased in Alberta.
