Alberta released its short-term employment forecast Thursday, highlighting in-demand jobs as well as the occupations which could face a labour shortage over the next 10 years.

Jobs Minister Kyle Fawcett says that during the next 10 years, 407,000 jobs will be created but only 311,000 will be filled.

Fawcett says the forecasts also show that more occupations are listed in the high-demand and moderately high-demand categories, yet shortages of labour in Alberta are becoming the norm and making the provincial labour market tighter.

Of the 31 occupations listed as high demand, construction estimators and automotive service technicians ranked high in all seven variables, including employment growth rates, industry forecasts, unemployment rate, and vacancy rates from wage and salary surveys

Another 29 occupations, including chefs, civil engineers, heavy-duty equipment mechanics, and crane operators, ranked high in six of the variables.
