Vancouver has been named one of the 18 most innovative cities in the world by Business Insider.

The list was assembled using a "range of metrics from patents per capita to skyscraper height," wrote author Drake Baer.

"Vancouver, Canada, has set a mission to become the greenest city in the world by 2020, which has already led to a 20 per cent decrease in water consumption," the site said about our fair city. "Plus, 41 per cent of people walk or bike to get around."

Others cities that made the shortlist include Santiago, Chile and Copenhagen, Denmark. Vancouver is the only Canadian city to make the cut.

And it's not the first time Vancouver has been recognized on an international scale. In 2012 it was ranked as one of the smartest cities in North America by Co.Exist. The Economist called it the most liveable city in North America in 2013. And earlier this year Vancouver was ranked as the best city for quality of life by Mercer.
