After a lengthy battle with addiction and depression, actor Robin Williams took his own life on Monday, August 11.

Throughout his career, despite any deep-seeded emotional issues, Williams was always viewed as a gregarious, kind soul, who was the first to stop and pose for photos with fans. Even in his movies, aside from his comedic roles, he often played the wise, sage mentor, a man who could help you along even though he was suffering himself.

Here are some of Robin Williams' best quotes -- astoundingly resonant after we've lost the man.

--

"I used to think the worst thing in life was to end up all alone, it’s not. The worst thing in life is to end up with people that make you feel alone."

"No matter what people tell you, words and ideas can change the world."

"You will have bad times, but they will always wake you up to the stuff you weren't paying attention to."

"You're only given a little spark of madness. If you lose that, you're nothing.”

"The truth is, if anything, I'm addicted to laughter."
