A teacher who was caught with inappropriate videos on his cellphone has been banned from teaching in B.C.
John MacKinnon, a learning support and special education teacher in the Maple Ridge-Pitt Meadows district, was found with smart phone videos of a student's crotch, according to a disciplinary decision recently published by the B.C. Teacher Regulation Branch.
MacKinnon was arrested at a Langley Walmart in 2012 after he was caught filming up women's skirts and from behind. One of the victims was 12 years old.
When police searched his phone, they found five videos recorded at MacKinnon's school. Footage from two of the videos was of a 10-year-old student's crotch from under a desk. The other videos showed a female teacher as well as an unidentified woman walking through a corridor.
The district suspended MacKinnon the day after his arrest, and he later resigned, says the decision.
MacKinnon pleaded guilty to one criminal charge of secretly observing or recording for a sexual purpose. He was given a conditional discharge of 18 months.
MacKinnon's teaching certificate has been cancelled, and he will not be issued a new one.
