The climax for many of Vancouver's summer PNE fair-goers came Thursday night with the announcement of the prize home winner.
Carol Ehlers of Mission won the $1.3-million house, designed by TV host Jillian Harris, in the draw that was broadcast live.
The fully furnished, 3,000 sq.-ft. home is located on Kelowna’s Kirschner Mountain.
Ehlers, 54, bought about $100 worth of tickets this year, reported The Province. According to the newspaper, she told her husband, "I'm lucky. I'm going to win it this year."
The couple had not attended the PNE for 15 years, said Global News.
About 112,000 sheets of tickets were sold at the fair and through phone and online sales this year.
“For 80 years, the PNE Prize Home has been one of the most popular attractions at the Fair at the PNE,” said president and CEO Michael McDaniel in a news release.
Ehlers excitedly toured the home with her husband and three children on Thursday.
Penticton's Sandy Wildman won the 50/50 prize, receiving half of the $880,460 jackpot. The PNE lottery also gave away five vacation packages and 11 cars or cash prizes, including a 2014 Corvette Stingray as a special 80th anniversary prize.
