The failure of the Scottish National Party (SNP) to secure victory in a referendum on independence Thursday provided Canadians with a chance to relentlessly mock their own country's separatists.
As poll after poll came in showing a resounding victory for the "No" side in Scotland's vote, many Twitter users turned their attention to Québec separatists' own failed attempts at breaking their province away from Canada.
Numerous Twitter users reflected on the simplicity of the ballot in the Scottish vote, compared to the complicated question that Canadians were asked in 1995.
Others opted to simply make fun of the separatists.
Still others were more polite, reflecting on the future of the SNP by examining what happened to the PQ.
The provincial Parti Québécois (PQ) had liaised with the SNP for years prior to the vote, The Associated Press reported Wednesday. SNP members were even present for the 1995 referendum, which ended in a thin victory for the "Non" side.
Some PQ and Bloc Québécois members did the same, travelling to Scotland only to witness separatism fail across the Atlantic.
