The federal Liberals are courting former Tory and Independent MP Bill Casey to run in his former riding of Cumberland-Colchester-Musquodoboit Valley in the next federal election.
Casey gained a national profile in 2007 when he was famously kicked out of the Conservative caucus by Prime Minister Stephen Harper for voting against his government’s budget, arguing the bill rewrote the Atlantic Accord. He was re-elected in 2008 by a landslide while running under the Independent banner and reached almost folk hero status in this province.
