New York Rangers player Kevin Klein was defending his team's goal against the Pittsburgh Penguins in the first period on Monday night.
Then this happened.
It left Klein's ear looking like this.
Klein ended up having part of his ear sewn back on, Rangers coach Alain Vigneault told reporters. But even that wasn't enough to take him out of the game.
With the teams tied 3-3 in overtime, Klein won it all with a shot from the point.
It's far from the first time that a player has returned from an injury to help win the game in spectacular fashion.
In 2003, Ducks forward Paul Kariya sustained a massive hit from the Devils' Scott Stevens that left him laid out on the ice.
And then, of course, this happened.
As Vigneault said after the Rangers game, "Say what you want about hockey players. They're tough SOBs."
