Charles Eugster, 95-Year-Old-Runner, Breaks World Record To Prove A Point About Age

“I want to make old age the best part of one’s life.”

A 95-year-old man wants to take old age stereotypes and throw them out the window.

So to make his point, Charles Eugster ran around a 200 metre track on March 8 – and set a new world record.

Nicknamed the World’s Fittest Pensioner, Eugster clocked in a 55.48 time, shaving 2.4 seconds off the previous record in the 95+ age bracket.

“I’m over the moon,” Eugster wrote in a Facebook message thanking his supporters.

The Swiss resident told SportsvibeTV he began body building at age 87 for what he called “very vain” reasons. He said he had noticed his body “deteriorated.”

He joined a body building club and hired a former Mr. Universe to whip him into shape. His intense training regimen pushed him to drop 12 kilograms in weight over the course of a year, according to his blog.

Calling retirement a “health catastrophe and a financial disaster,” Eugster says he hopes he can serve as an inspiration to other retirees, showing how someone can “achieve anything at any age.”

“I want to change the world,” Eugster explains. “I want to make old age something wonderful, stupendous, fantastic, superb, interesting, exciting.”

“I want to make old age the best part of one’s life,” he said.
