While she may be best known as Duchess of Cambridge (or if we're being honest, Kate Middleton), Catherine appears to have another title: Princess of the United Kingdom.
According to the birth certificate the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge filed for their new baby girl, Her Royal Highness Princess Charlotte of Cambridge, "princess" is what Kate listed as her occupation on the form, much as she did for Prince George's certificate in 2013.
As Kensington Palace tweeted this morning:
There is some confusion about the title that was never quite cleared up after George's birth. Unlike other monarchies, those marrying into the U.K. royal family don't automatically become "prince" or "princess," according to Royal Central, which points out that while Diana was the Princess of Wales, she was never accurately called "Princess Diana."
It is possible, however, that Prince William decided to call Catherine a Princess, and thanks to his birthright, it seems he can pretty well do as he likes when it comes to that title, reported Express.
Interestingly, William listed his own occupation as Prince of the United Kingdom, as opposed to his new position as an air ambulance pilot — but of course, we suppose one outranks the other.
As for the job of princess, it appears to be much the same as duchess, in that it primarily requires official appearances for the royal family.
The couple introduced their daughter to the Queen on Tuesday, and then left for Amner Hall, reports the Telegraph, their country estate where they're expected to remain for the summer, with William taking a paternity leave until June 1.
