Stress And Pregnancy Don't Mix, Study

How Stress Complicates Your Pregnancy

Pregnancy and stress often go hand-in-hand. With so many rules about what expectant moms can and can’t do, plus the anxiety of impending labour, it’s not hard to understand why.

However, a new study by the University of Denver suggests that stress is one of the worst things for pregnant women. In fact, research finds that pregnancy stress levels can have a huge effect on the unborn child, causing them to be more prone to anxiety later in life and even leading to mental health disorders, such as depression.

So what can pregnant women do to prevent this? Try to keep a healthy body, mind and soul. “We don’t pay attention to women’s mental health during pregnancy the same way we do to other areas, such as their nutrition,” says Dr. Elysia Davis, from the University of Denver.

In the video above, HuffPost Live discusses the specific effects stress has on the health of moms and their babies, as well as what expectant mothers can do to overcome their anxiety.
