Gund Bear: Proof 80s Kids Had The Same Teddy

Proof 80s Kids Had The Same Teddy Bear
Reddit

On Thursday, one Reddit member posted a photo that we can all relate to: our first teddy bear.

'UsernameIWontRegret' posted the above photo of two bears with the caption: "When my brother was born in 1985, my mother purchased two identical teddy bears. The one on the left has been my brother's for 30 years, the one on the right has been kept in storage for my brother's first child who was born today."

Turns out the bear is a Gund -- a brand many 80s kids will remember. "According to my mother it's been on many vacations, gotten soaked in pool water time and time again, and got lost on a theme park ride at Disney World. It has certainly seen a lot," says the Redditor of the original teddy's "worn" state.

When we saw this well-loved bear, we couldn't help but think of this passage from The Velveteen Rabbit:

"Weeks passed, and the little Rabbit grew very old and shabby, but the Boy loved him just as much. He loved him so hard that he loved all his whiskers off, and the pink lining to his ears turned grey, and his brown spots faded. He even began to lose his shape, and he scarcely looked like a rabbit any more, except to the Boy. To him he was always beautiful, and that was all that the little Rabbit cared about. He didn't mind how he looked to other people, because the nursery magic had made him Real, and when you are Real shabbiness doesn't matter."

Apparently this photo triggered many memories and more than 2,500 comments from other Redditors who shared stories and photos of their own first stuffies. Incredibly, many had the same bear!

"I have the exact same bear!"
