The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) is warning parents to check baby formula packaging for signs of tampering or product substitution.
“Infant formula products have been found where the outer cases and containers are intact, but the product inside may have the tamper-proof seal broken and may contain a different product (brand and/or variety),” a notice on the agency’s website reads.
CFIA says tampering or product substitution does not usually occur during manufacturing. Instead, incidents occur when consumers return products for a refund.
Parents are being cautioned to make sure security seals are intact before use and to not use any formula that appears to have been tampered with.
So far, there have been no illnesses associated with the complaints.
