The City of Calgary released its "sunshine list" this week, detailing the annual compensation for all positions at the city, as well as general information about pensions and benefits.
Of the city's 13,000 staff, 72 per cent make between $50,00 and $100,000 per year. Twenty per cent of employees surpass the $100,000 mark.
City manager Jeff Fielding is the top compensated employee, earning somewhere between $265,000 and $350,000 a year.
The list does not include names and actual salaries of specific employees.
Fielding told CBC News the city often consults salary information to remain competitive.
"We're benchmarking against not only our market here in Calgary, which includes private sector companies, but we're also looking at other organizations that are local government and other levels of government to ensure that, again, we're not leading, but we're in a situation where we're competitive," said Fielding.

Coun. Diane Colley-Urquhart told The Calgary Sun she was disappointed by the lack of specifics in the list.
"It was really difficult to get this passed in council, many of our colleagues felt this was just a witch hunt and we were wanting to get people’s names published ... so I’m pleased we at least got something through.
"But ... basically this is what you could get by looking at job postings."
Fielding, however, cited privacy concerns as to why the list fails to mention names and exact salaries.
"This list strikes a good balance between protecting employee privacy and providing public disclosure to our citizens," he told Global News.
Excluded from the list are seasonal workers, on-call employees, summer-students, business interns, co-op students, recreation non-union program jobs and elected officials.
