The lead-up vibe to the 2015 Pan Am Games has been a mixed bag so far, what with the traffic woes, worries about attendance and Torontonians' lack of commitment to the sporting event.
But we're here to tell you that all changed with retired sprinter Donovan Bailey's entrance at the Pan Am Games opening ceremony on Friday night.
First, a prefilmed segment showed his former 4x4 teammates from the 1996 Atlanta Summer Games passing the Pan Am torch to each other. Somehow Bruny Surin managed to make it all the way up to the outside level the observation deck of the CN Tower, where the heart-stopping Edgewalk takes place for brave visitors.
Bruny runs along the deck edge and passes the torch to a waiting Donovan Bailey:
And then Bailey JUMPS off the CN Tower.
And then:
That's right. He descended into the Rogers Centre holding the Pan Am flame. And in one leap of faith, the non-believers were converted.
