Ryan O'Reilly Got Drunk And Drove Truck Into Tim Hortons, Police Say

Oh, Canada.

Like many Canadian stories, it all started at a Tim Hortons.

Just after 4 a.m. on Thursday, a green Chevy pickup truck hit a Tim Hortons in Lucan, Ont., AM980's Craig Needles reported. Police say the driver didn't stop, but kept going and later abandoned the truck. Police caught up with the driver and another man who was in the car, and charged the driver for impaired driving and failure to remain at the scene of an accident.

It turns out the person who was arrested is Ryan O'Reilly, the NHLer newly traded to the Buffalo Sabres. He also happens to own this truck:

A week before the incident, he signed a $52.5-million, seven-year contract with the Sabres. And from his Instagram account, it looks like he had been enjoying his summer break, until now.

Oooo that's nice

When he was traded to the Sabres, the team's general manager Tim Murray praised the fact that O'Reilly "at his age, is already established in the league as someone who plays a complete game and makes his teammates better."

Let's hope O'Reilly is also established as someone who learns that drinking and driving is a really, really terrible idea.

He's due in court in London, Ont. on Aug. 20.
