Ava Hadfield wanted nothing more than to meet her idol Taylor Swift, and on Tuesday night that dream became a reality.
Ava, 5, was diagnosed with a brain tumor in 2012. The terminally-ill girl from Sherwood Park, Alta. recently drafted a bucket list of all the things she wants to accomplish.
On the top of that list was meeting the Grammy-winning artist, whose videos she watched while passing the time recovering from brain surgery earlier this year.
Friends and family of the little girl rallied on social media to gain Swift's attention. "Ava's Army" helped spread the news, and in July a Swift rep contacted her family to deliver the good news that the dying girl's dream would come true.
Accompanied by her parents and aunt Tuesday evening, Ava was treated to a limo ride, a backstage meet-and-greet, and a chance to give a couple gifts to her idol, reports CTV News.
Her friends and family shared photos online from the dream encounter.
According to The Edmonton Journal, Ava has undergone two surgeries, 46 weeks of chemotherapy and 31 rounds of radiation. She will soon start a new experimental drug that is being tested at Sick Kids Hospital in Toronto.
“At this point, my husband and I have decided it’s about quality of life, not quantity,” her mother, Mandy Hadfield, told The Journal.
“If the side effects are too much, we won’t continue.”
