Canada has what's called "no-fault" divorce — where the only grounds for dissolution is a "marriage breakdown."

Canada has what's called "no-fault" divorce — where the only grounds for dissolution is a "marriage breakdown."

According to the Department of Justice, divorce applicants can show that their marriage has broken down if any of the following criteria applies:

  • They have been living apart for one year or more.
  • A spouse has been physically or mentally cruel to the other.
  • If the spouse has committed adultery (ie: cheating).
