UPDATE: Sept. 9, 9:45 a.m.: Sidewalk Citizen Bakery has found the overgenerous tipper they were looking for.
Customer Pat Benedict said she's grateful for the vigilance of the bakery staff.
"They said, 'do you know you left about a $525 tip?' I said 'no, I didn't know I did that,' '" said Benedict, who returned to the bakery for her refund on Tuesday.
"Somebody is looking after me, I'd say. It makes me feel good."
A generous customer left a 1000 per cent tip at a Calgary bakery over the weekend — but staff think the dough left behind was likely a mistake.
"On Saturday a customer left us a $525 tip (on a $49 purchase) on debit. Our service is good, but not that good!" Sidewalk Citizen Bakery posted to their Facebook page Monday.
The bakery staff don't believe the tip was intentional, but rather a slip of the fingers on the debit keypad.
Owner Aviv Fried told CTV News they have not had success tracking down the owner of the card, but they'll hang onto the money for a month, in case of user error.
"I would assume that most people would go over their statement at least once a month," he said.
