Santa Claus Just Won A North Pole Election

Santa Claus has been elected as a North Pole city councilman – and we’re not joking!

The 68-year-old candidate, who legally changed his name from Thomas Patrick O'Connor, won a write-in campaign for an open City Council seat. Claus began campaigning two weeks before the October 6 election, taking to the streets in his classic red-and-white suit.

After receiving 58 votes, Claus won a seat on the 6-person council. The Fairbanks community, made up of 2,200 people, was amused by the candidate’s win. “I'm sure glad Santa won,” one person said.
