Virsaviya Borun is just as cheerful as any other girl her age, despite living with a rare health condition many would find hard to imagine.
The six year old was born with Pentalogy of Cantrell, which means that her heart and intestines are outside of her chest. She's also missing her diaphragm, some chest bones, and abdominal muscles.
"My heart is right here. It's outside of my chest and I really love my mom, she's always touching my heart because she likes it," the girl told NBC Miami.
Virsaviya and her mom, Dari Borun, moved to the U.S. from Russia, hoping she could have surgery, according to the Daily Mirror.
But the Children’s Hospital in Boston refused to operate on Virsaviya, saying that her high aortic blood pressure was a problem, Dari told the outlet. The girl has started taking medication to help bring down her blood pressure.
The two moved to Hollywood, Fla., where the warmer climate helps Virsaviya's health, according to Fox 29. She'll be re-evaluated in two years to see if surgery is safe.
Dari also launched a crowdfunding campaign to help pay for emergency medical expenses, as well as day-to-day living costs, according to NBC Miami.
Dari has covered US$28,000 of her US$100,000 goal, thanks to the fundraiser, but an anonymous donor offered to cover the difference in full last month.
Now, the mother-daughter duo just have to wait and see if Virsaviya's blood pressure will drop enough to allow a safe surgery.
