The Alberta Wildrose party has just given us another great reminder of the importance of double-checking what you post online before you — in this case, literally — sign off on it.
The opposition Wildrose has been butting heads with the NDP government over pipelines, an issue that came to a head with this week's rejection of the Keystone XL by U.S. President Barack Obama.
The party tried to draw attention to Premier Rachel Notley's lack of support for another proposed pipeline — the Northern Gateway — with a Facebook post on Monday.
Unfortunately, the party got the wrong kind of attention. The graphic posted on Wildrose leader Brian Jean's Facebook page was taken down shortly after without comment.
Edmonton blogger Dave Cournoyer was one of the first to point out the many problems with the graphic that included Jean's signature: "Wildrose spells Premier's name wrong, uses photo of Vancouver in tweet about Northern Gateway."
Others were quick to jump on additional mistakes.
The poor photo choice was particularly ironic, given that Notley actually does support the Trans-Mountain pipeline expansion in Vancouver.
So, just to recap:
- The Northern Gateway pipeline runs from Alberta to Kitimat, not Vancouver.
- Oil is not transported in shipping containers on a cargo ship.
- And it's spelled Notley, not "Notely."
Perhaps the legislature's recently changed 9 a.m. start times are proving to be too much for the Wildrose MLAs.
