TTC Bus Driver Does Pushups With Passengers Watching

The shoulders on the bus go up and down, up and down, up and down...

The wheels on the bus go round and round, and this driver's shoulders go up and down, up and down.

A bus driver with the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) was caught on video doing pushups next to a passenger — but his triceps can rest easy as he will face no discipline.

YouTube user Ian B, who uploaded the brief video Tuesday, said the driver should have given the passenger some personal space.

But TTC spokeswoman Susan Sperling told The Toronto Sun that the exercise doesn't appear to have compromised anyone's safety.

"It looks as if it's an almost-empty bus, it looks as if it's fully-parked and looks as if there's no danger to anyone and is safe," she said.

Research by the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health has shown that drivers and others who work in transit face a greater-than-average risk of developing chronic health conditions, the Amalgamated Transit Union reported.

A study of health records for over 214,000 employees found that more than 40 per cent of transit workers have high blood pressure, compared to an average of 27.6 per cent for 55 different types of work.

Regular exercise is a great way to manage your blood pressure.
