There's no exact science behind why cats are seemingly terrified by cucumbers, but Roger Mugford, an animal behaviour specialist, told the Telegraph it probably has less to do with the cucumber and more about being startled while eating.

"I think that the reaction is due to the novelty and unexpectedness of finding an unusual object secretly placed whilst their heads were down in the food bowl," said Mugford.
