Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson Gets Candid About His Struggle With Depression

And he wants you to know you are not alone.

After being cut from the Calgary Stampeders when he was only 23, Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson fell into depression that would eventually lead him to fame.

As part of Oprah Winfrey's Master Class, the former wrestler-turned-actor openly speaks about poignant moments in his life, from the birth of his first child to the terrifying moment where he nearly lost his mother to his own personal struggle with depression.

In the video above, Johnson recalls shutting himself up in his parents apartment in Tampa after failing to make the NFL and being asked to leave the CFL. "At 23 you think life is over," he confesses.

Johnson spent his days cleaning, one of the few things he said he felt he had control over.

Looking back on the scenario now, Johnson admits he wished he had someone back then to tell him it would be okay.

"You're not the first to go through it; you're not going to be the last to go through it. And oftentimes — it happens — you just feel like you're alone. You feel like it's only you. You're in your bubble." he says.

Johnson credits faith with helping him get past the pain of the rejection and encourages others to do the same. "Hold onto that fundamental quality of faith. Have faith that on the other side of your pain is something good," he adds.

Watch the video above to discover how Johnson's struggle eventually led him to a decision that would change his life forever.
